Chocolate Town House Cookies

1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs (well-beaten)
2-1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
2 cups chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix shortening, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla together.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Add well-beaten eggs and beat entire mixture.
Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
Stir in chopped nuts and chocolate chips. Mix thoroughly.
Drop by spoonful onto greased cookie sheet.
Bake in 375 degree oven for about 10 minutes.

Makes approximately 8 dozen cookies.
